Robert Cornelius Dated 1840 Daguerreotype of Walter Cresson of Philadelphia Rare kilt a hard to find 19thSixth plate daguerreotype of Walter Cresson, identified and dated 1840 by a note that was found behind the image. The Cressons were a respected family from Philadelphia. There are several known portraits of them taken by Robert Cornelius; I own two, including another of Cresson, signed and dated by Cornelius in his original frame (separate listing). The dag I am offering here is unmarked and unsigned, but I'm confident the photographer was Cornelius.
