In the painting we see two women and a man carrying oars, fishing nets and a mast. In the background we see the sea and a fantastic sky at sunrise. Albert Edelfelt was one of the first Finnish artists to achieve international fame. In 1895 Edelfelt was elected chairman of the Artists' Guild in Finland and in 1896 he painted Tsar Nicholas II's portrait.
